The Things in My Home That Could Never Be Replaced

Maybe the most beautiful things in a home aren't the ones we buy... they're the ones that quietly become part of our story.

I love decorating.

Seriously... I could lose an entire Saturday rearranging a room, hanging wallpaper, or convincing myself I absolutely need another throw pillow.

It's probably why I started Sandy Beach Decor in the first place.

I genuinely believe our homes affect how we feel.

But the older I get, the more I've realized something.

The things I love most in my house...

aren't things I picked out online.

They aren't expensive.

They aren't even particularly impressive.

If someone else walked through my house, they might not even notice them.

But they're the first things I'd save if the house caught fire.

My Mom's Little Ceramic Cat

One of my favorite things is a little ceramic cat.

My mom made it in her high school pottery class.

It's kind of funny looking.

Definitely homemade.

And completely irreplaceable.

Every time I walk by it, I picture my mom as a teenager sitting in an art class somewhere, covered in clay, making this little cat that she never imagined her daughter would treasure decades later.

It's funny how something so small can carry so much love.

Her Jewelry Box

I also have my mom's jewelry box.

I've known that jewelry box for literally my entire life.

As a little girl, I'd sneak into her room, open it, and look at all her jewelry like it was buried treasure.

Now when I open it, I don't just see necklaces.

I remember being little.

Sometimes a smell...

a sound...

or an old jewelry box...

can bring back an entire childhood.

Taj's Snowman

One Christmas, Taj drew me a snowman.

The snowman has a black eye.

I still don't know why.

It makes me laugh every single time I see it.

Someone else sees a child's drawing.

I see Christmas mornings.

Little hands.

The years that somehow went by way too fast.

Parents know exactly what I'm talking about.

One day your refrigerator is covered in artwork...

and then one day...

it isn't.

Those drawings become priceless before you even realize it.

Emma's Gift

Emma bought me a stained-glass piece from The Cobbler.

Every afternoon when the sunlight shines through it, I smile.

Not because it's beautiful...

although it is.

Because she saw it...

and immediately thought,

"Mom would love this."

I think that's one of the sweetest feelings in the world.

Juby's Mother's Day Portrait

I have a Mother's Day portrait Juby made for me years ago.

Let's just say...

it's not exactly realistic.

😂

But I wouldn't change a single thing.

For one tiny moment in time...

that's how my child saw me.

There isn't a painting in the world that could ever mean more than that.

My High School Flower Pot

I also still have the flower pot I made in high school.

It's crooked.

A little lumpy.

Definitely not Pinterest-worthy.

But every time I see it, I think about seventeen-year-old me.

I think sometimes we keep things because they remind us who we've been.

And maybe that's reason enough.

Your House Should Tell Your Story

I think we've accidentally started believing that beautiful homes have to look perfect.

Everything matching.

Everything brand new.

Everything straight out of a magazine.

Honestly...

those homes don't interest me nearly as much anymore.

I want the house with the old family photos.

The handmade pottery.

The coffee mug that's chipped because Grandpa used it every morning.

The recipe card with someone's handwriting on it.

The kids' artwork hanging right next to the expensive wallpaper.

That's the stuff that makes a house feel alive.

That's What Sandy Beach Decor Is Really About

People sometimes ask me why I started Sandy Beach Decor.

The truth is...

it was never just about decorating.

It's about helping people create homes they actually love living in.

Homes that tell their story.

Homes that feel collected instead of copied.

Of course I love beautiful wallpaper.

And cozy blankets.

And gorgeous shower curtains.

But I don't think those things are the stars of the show.

They're the background.

The real stars are the memories you make inside those rooms.

Walk through your house for a minute.

What's the one thing you'd grab if you only had sixty seconds?

Not because it's expensive.

Because it means something.

That's probably your favorite thing.
